While this is not exactly moving a file between columns - this app allows to move a file to Google Drive, and then add a link to this file to any column. Depending on the workflow this might be useful to have a single source of truth for data: Sync for Google Drive
This feature is a must. It feels really unecessary downloading and reuploading files

Your concern about file movement between columns and items is valid, as the current implementation requires unnecessary downloads and reuploads, making the process inefficient and less secure.

Time-consuming & Inefficient: Manually downloading and re-uploading files increases friction.
Security Risks: Re-downloading and re-uploading files could expose them to unnecessary vulnerabilities.

Proposed Solution:
Native File Transfer Support: Implement a move feature that allows files to be transferred between items/columns without re-uploading.
API Enhancement: Modify the API to support direct file migration across items and columns.
Permissions & Security Handling: Ensure that file ownership and permissions are preserved during transfers.

Our Solution “Copy Files Pro” takes care of Copying files from column to column, same or different board.
Moving Files and Synch is on the way.
I’m confused about your Permissions and Security remark. Files uploaded on Item level usually don’t have their own Permissions.
What am I missing?

At this time, this feature isn’t on our long-term roadmap, as we’re currently focused on other high-impact priorities that are further along in development. That said, we know this comes highly requested, so we’ll continue to evaluate it as we plan ahead.
We’re always listening, and we’ll make sure to share any updates here when anything changes. In the meantime, thank you for continuing to share helpful workarounds with the community!

You can COPY, MOVE and SYNC files between COLUMNS, ITEMS and BOARDS.
You can copy files from UPDATES to Columns in a board.
You can RENAME files while COPYING, MOVING, SYNCING Files.
