Adding an update to a connect line item without leaving the board

We have one main campaign board that we use to brief out to other team boards. On our subitems, we link/connect the boards line items and mirror some of the key columns. However, we use to be able to add an update by clicking on the connected board link and popping the update into the conversation without leaving our main board. Now whenever we try and add an update, it takes us out of our main board and into the individual team boards. Is this a new update? Any chance this will go back to how it was? It was such a huge time saver
