When writing an email in email & activities, it already has improved by being able to widen the overview.
I would like to suggest to also algin the content to the left (or maybe right depending on the language settings) so more of the underlying content is shown as the content still partially stays behind the ‘new email message’ popup.
With this change, you can even better see and read the email history.
