I recently tried the “Start with AI” function in the Doc view and was disappointed to learn that the AI does not appear to have access to the Main table data.
I was expecting that I could ask the AI to create a written report in the doc based on my tasks. But it is unable to do anything of the sort.
All it can do is format some Doc elements for me. This is not very useful. If it could access the Main table data the way that Vibe can, then it would be much more useful.
What are you trying to achieve
Use AI to read my tasks and produce a short report on what actions have taken place recently.
What you’re seeing is expected based on how the Doc AI currently works.
The “Start with AI” feature inside a Doc is focused on helping generate and format content within the document itself. It doesn’t automatically pull in or analyze data from the Main table on the board. So at the moment, it won’t generate a report directly from your tasks.
If your goal is to create a summary of recent activity, a couple of approaches you might consider:
• Use board filters to narrow down tasks updated in a specific time frame, then export or copy that filtered view into a Doc and use AI to help summarize it.
• Use dashboard widgets like Activity or Table to surface recent changes, then generate a written summary based on that view.
• If you’re using other AI features that can reference board data more directly, those may be better suited for task-based summaries.

Since this isn’t currently supported natively in monday Docs, a workaround you can use is an external AI tool like ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot together with the monday.com connector.
This allows the AI to access your board data, analyze recent task activity, and generate a written summary report. You can then ask it to create a document with the generated report.
