Description
I would like to create a project schedule containing a timeline and a duration. Instead of planning with fix dates, I would give each item an estimated duration and leave the timeline empty. Ideally, I could also already set the dependencies and milestones, already.
This way, I could plan without knowing the exact date.
Then, when I want to know when to start (or when I get a deadline) I can simply enter the start or end date (depending), and all other timelines are automatically calculated and filled in accordingly.
Note: I do not want to use the dependencies for that, as they are not all strict and thus the dates would not change.
What are you trying to achieve
I want to be able to plan without/before knowing all dates. I can set dependencies and estimate the duration. And as soon as I know one date, all other dates could be calculated and set automatically, like MS project does. I could with almost no effort see when I have to start when I can to keep the deadline or when I’d finish when I start at a certain date - without manually altering all timelines and without setting fake dates to be able to guess and to add dependencies.
