Currently the automation to send an email doesn’t accept a mirror column, and the template automation to copy a mirrored column to another column only works with status columns.
What are you trying to achieve
Our scenario is a separate board with a list of people and email addresses. This is then mirrored as a lookup column on other boards. We can mirror the email address as an additional column but not send emails to it via an automation.
Please could either an email automation allow for mirrored columns, or the copy template automation allow for copying other column types.
It allows you to add the same item on multiple boards and keep them in sync using regular columns so you don’t need to use mirror columns. All automations can be run on regular columns.
I totally feel your pain on this one—it’s a common hurdle when trying to keep boards lean while still powering those essential email automations. Since automations can’t “see” mirrored data yet, here are two solid ways you can bridge that gap right now:
Option 1: Use the VLOOKUP App Instead of using the native Mirror column, you can use the VLOOKUP for monday app. This allows you to link items and pull data (like email addresses) directly into a Standard Text Column. Because the data lives in a standard column, your email automations will recognize it instantly!
Option 2: The “Smart Columns” App If you prefer to keep your mirrors, you can use the Smart Columns app. It’s designed specifically to “cast” or copy the values from a mirrored column into a standard column automatically. Once the email is cast into a regular text column, you’re good to go with your email templates.
If you’d like a hand setting this up or want to walk through your specific workflow to see which app fits best, we’re happy to help!
Hopefully, this helps you get those emails flying out without the manual copy-paste hassle!
Hey @witherowj if you are open to marketplace apps, you can achieve that with SuperMail as it has automations that allows to send automated(and designed) emails to mirrored columns.
Appreciate the option but don’t really have to scope to start also paying for Apps to fix any issues we run into. Any app that can also provide better formatted emails than Monday currently does would certainly have been nice.
@witherowj Actually, the Supermail app I mentioned does allow you to design and format the email in any way you, all rich text options.
Also allows you sending to mirrored columns you wanted, email tracking, buttons that change status directly from email, adding attachments, sub-items, draft with AI and many more things. you can try for free, Sent u a link in previous comment.
