When you have a module open (contact or lead), then you can unknowingly select all items behind the pop-up module, and edit multiple items without being aware.
The pop-up that “warns” you that multiple items are selected, is behind the module, so you cannot see that multiple items are selected. And if you change multiple things the “undo” functions is not sufficient.
