There’s been a bug where this pops up even when the button is used in a workflow automation. This confuses people because it makes it seem like the workflow didn’t work. Can we get this fixed, please?

I agree that would be confusing, especially if the workflow runs but the message makes it look like it didn’t.
I recommend reporting it to Support so they can review your specific setup and escalate if needed. Including a short screen recording will help them troubleshoot faster.
In the meantime, it may help to double check the button column and custom automation settings to confirm everything is configured as expected.

This is a great one to send to support. As a workaround I generally add a ‘normal automation’ when using buttons in workflows to keep that from popping up. ie When button is clicked, notify ‘me’ or ‘set date’ column. Something small that won’t hurt anything else, but at least gets that message to go away.
