Concatenate item name with suffix then copy into Connect Board column

Hi, I need help with the following:

I have a board “Project Planning” which is connected to “System Planning” board. The item name in the “System Planning” board consists of a concatenation of the Item name in the Project Planning board with a suffix, e.g. “-xxx”.

I would like to automate population of the Connect board column linking these two by pasting the value of “Concatenate({Planning Board},”-xxx”) preferably without creating a formula field.

Is this possible?

Thanks Paul

Hello @paul.eldred Hi Paul, good question.

At the moment this isn’t possible natively without a formula or external tool. monday.com automations can’t dynamically link items by matching a concatenated value or searching by item name.

Common workarounds are to create the linked item at the same time with the suffix applied, use a temporary Formula column to generate the value, or handle the lookup and connection with a tool like Make or Zapier.
