I am developing a Marketplace Dashboard Widget app, which is done and ready for release, except for a monday.com bug that has yet to be resolved. I am looking for any work arounds that anyone here might have…
The situation is this: I have added 2 “Columns” fields, but neither of them show their Column dropdown when in the Developer Center preview mode, or when the initial Dashboard Widget setup pops up on initial app installation. Instead, this is what the setup menu looks like in those cases: As you can see inside the red box, instead of a dropdown allowing you to select a value column for the widget, you see “No relevant columns on this board, please Add Column”.
However, if you click through the installation process, and dismiss that first popup (which has confounded my testers!), you can then go and use the widget without a problem, and the menu dropdowns appears as they should:
I have contacted monday.com support, and they have been telling me for almost two months that this is a bug that will be solved with their next release, but I am looking to release my app asap…
Has anyone else here experienced this? Are there any work-arounds that will solve this?
Literally at the same stage as you. If you eventually found a solution I’d be really grateful if you could share it.
For me, it’s made the development process ridiculously complex. As I cannot select any column, I cannot properly read the values it’s giving me. I’m having to make some changes, upload the new build zip file and then see what I’m getting. Absolute nonsense!
Would you be able to please fill this form adding as much information as possible to it (such as account ID, app ID, a screen recording of the configuration of the app and the issue you see, etc.) so that our team can take a look into it?
Thanks for the response. I just filled that out, not sure what I was supposed to show in the screen recording but I tried to cover my problem and configs. Hope it helps.
I submitted this as a ticket in around June, and so far it has not been addressed by monday.
After I released the AllDayIT Speedometer app though we realized that we can create a workaround for the issue - and it’s actually great!
Usually, the Monday Dev setup suggests that you choose at least 1 feature for “onboarding”, so that the initial widget setup popup can allow users to configure the widget from the get go. What we have done is that when the app is installed in a Dashboard, instead of having the dysfunctional widget setup popup appear (dysfunctional since you can’t select a column due to the monday bug that we are discussing here), we disabled that popup entirely by unchecking all “Required for onboarding” checkboxes in every one of the the app’s feature input settings. We then replaced the whole “onboarding” popup experience with a splash screen in the new and unconfigured widget frame. We show that splash screen and supporting text and links whenever the required value columns are unselected in the widget settings.
So, when the otherwise unpopulated widget shows, I have a splash screen with links to a tutorial video, the manual, and clear instructions to go to the widget settings to add data.
