Weโd like to request a crucial enhancement to the connection column functionality.
From a main board, we want to use a connection column to link to multiple other boards โ where the target of that connection is inside subitems on those boards.
Why it matters:
Many setups organize detailed work at the subitem level (e.g. tasks, deliverables, steps), and we need to reference those subitems from a centralized board.
Whether done manually or through automation, this kind of connection would dramatically improve visibilty.
What are you trying to achieve
From a main board, we want to use a connection column to link to multiple other boards โ where the target of that connection is inside subitems on those boards.
You can duplicate the subitem as an item on the boards you like. The app also keeps everything in sync based on Common Columns, so you donโt have to worry about that.
If possible - do schedule a call with us here. We can discuss your use-case in detail. Alternatively you can reach out at support@fortimus.co.

You can try this:
For example, letโs say you have the following board setup:
Board A - Board where you want the connect column to live linking to subitems on other boards.
Board B - Source of the subitems.
You can try creating mirror columns on Board B for the subitems and adding a connect column on Board A to link Board B to Board A.
If you want to do more with that mirror column, keep reading:
To project a normal column value to that subitem column on a different board, you can then setup the following recipe on Board A from our app, Formula PRO Automations, โWhen column changes, execute formula and project result to mirror columnโ to project the result of a normal column to that subitem mirror column.
Letโs say you have Board Main and Board XYZ, and you want to connect the items of Board Main to the subitems of Board XYZ.
Go to Board XYZ.
Go to any subitem or create a fake subitem on Board XYZ.
On that subitem, add a connect board column connecting to Board Main with two-way connection.
Now you have a connection between itemBoard Main and subitemBoard XYZ.
You can follow the same steps for any other board where its subitems need to connect to the items of Board Main. This will add new connect board columns for each new board in Board Main.
ADDED TIP: If you want to keep all your subitem connected boards linked to a single connect board column on Board Main, just duplicate Board XYZ for each board you need. You can even save a duplicated version of Board XYZ as a template, so you can duplicate from the template moving forward. This ensures all connections remain consolidated in one connect board column on Board Main.
With Connected Boards Automations, you can set up exactly what you need in literally 4 minutes or less! Please check out this 4-minute video tutorial and follow the steps.
Also, if you want to sync data from your item in the Main Board to all the connected subitems, you can use any of these cool automations from the Connected Boards Automations app as well. Two-way syncing is also possible!
i found a work around that you can use the workflow blocks for connect board to point two subitem together or link a board or subitem board an existing connect board column
through the api you cannot point at a connect board and say add this individual board but with this you can!
i was able to use this workflow builder block to connect subitems and items from several boards in an existing connect boards column
