I’m looking for clarity on how the global search handles partial words. We are seeing some inconsistent results and want to understand the “rules” of the search bar.
Using our data as an example:
If I search PANEL, it finds PANELS.
However, searching PANEL does NOT find PANELTEC or PANELTECH.
Searching PANELTEC only finds that exact spelling; it does not find PANELTECH.
My Question: Why does the search find the plural (Panels), but it won’t find the rest of the word (Paneltec) when I search for Panel? Is there a way to make the search bring up everything that contains the word “Panel” regardless of what letters come after it?
All this searching is occurring and finding its results on the same text column.
It matches full words and simple variations like plurals. That’s why:
Panel finds Panels
Panel does not find Paneltec or Paneltech because those are treated as different full words
Paneltec only finds Paneltec, not Paneltech, because spelling must match exactly
There’s no setting to make global search act like “contains.” It’s closer to whole-word search with light plural logic.
Workarounds:
Use naming like “Panel Tech” so Panel is its own word
Use Tags or Status for searchable keywords
Use board filters with “contains” for partial matches
