Is it possible to use "sum of" mirror columns in Workflows?

Hi Monday community!

I have another question related to Workflows.

Is it possible to use mirror columns in Workflows?

I’m talking about the use case where the mirror column apply a rule like “sum of”.

To illustrate my situation:

  • I have 2 items in a board with a “%” column.
  • These 2 columns are linked to a common item in another board.
  • In this latest board, the mirror column display a sum of the 2 “%” columns.
  • It is this value (sum of) I would like to use in workflow as a condition.

Is it possible?

Thanks in advance for your support/advice!

Hey! Great question about Monday.com workflows and mirror columns.

Short answer:
No, currently you cannot use mirror columns as triggers or conditions directly in Monday.com automations/workflows. Mirror columns reflect data from linked boards but are not considered actionable data in automations.

More detail:

  • Mirror columns display data from linked boards and can include formulas like “sum of” linked columns.
  • However, Monday.com automations (workflows) typically don’t recognize mirror columns as trigger or condition fields.
  • This means you can’t set an automation condition like “When mirror column value is greater than X” or “If mirror column sum equals Y” directly.

Workarounds:

  1. Use a Numbers/Formulas column on the main board instead:
Instead of relying on mirror columns, create a Numbers or Formula column on the board where the original data lives. Then use that column in your workflow condition.
  2. Use integrations or apps:
If the logic is complex, you might use Monday Apps or external tools like Integromat/Make or Zapier to monitor mirror column values and trigger actions accordingly.
  3. Manual sync or automation on source board:
Sometimes you can set up automations on the source boards (where the original % values are) to update a helper column or status that then triggers workflows.

If you want, I can help brainstorm a specific setup tailored to your boards. Would you like to share more about your board structure?

Hope that helps, let me know with a like or reply if you want more support
