Is there a way to UPDATE items (e.g. Contacts) with an Import?

I have migrated a few thousands contacts from HubSpot. The number of fields on the contacts exceeded 50, so I was not able to import the full dataset. I have to cut the Excel sheet off at column 50.

My plan was to them import a second sheet, which has the remaining columns (plus one column that matches that data to the contacts now in Monday).

However, it seems there is no Update existing option in the import tool. In HubSpot (and most other CRMs I am familiar with) there’s an option to simply update existing contacts with whatever new or modified data one has in a CSV / Excel file.

It seems in Monday I only have the option to completely replace the Contact if it already exists (i.e. if my imported data has a matching / duplicate contact).

Is there any way at all to bulk update (not entirely replace) contacts (or any items for that matter) in Monday? In the same way one can on any typical CRM (HubSpot, for example)?

I am now at a loss as to how I can pull in the 30 or so columns I was not allowed to import initially.

Please advise.

Thank you.

Jonathan

I may have figured this out. It appears the description of the options in the import tool is unclear about what occurs.

It states, " Overwrite : replace duplicated items that match a specific column"

Which gave me the impression it completely replaces existing items rather than adding to and or updating them.

So long as the update data includes the Item Name column (“Name”, in the case of Contacts), and obviously also a column with which to match the items), it is possible to import an CSV/Excel file and simply update / add to existing Items (Contacts, in my case).

It seems to me Monday.com needs to rethink their wording choice on the “Overwrite” option.
