Description
When combining multiple boards into one dashboard, Monday.com currently groups Status column values by color, not by the text label itself. Since the system only supports 39 colors, any status labels that share the same color across different boards are automatically bundled together in reports and charts.
This causes inaccurate reporting — for example, “Pending Review” on one board and “Needs Approval” on another might share the same color but represent different stages. As a result, these distinct statuses are merged into one value on the dashboard, making it impossible to distinguish between them.
I understand there’s an option to use a Dropdown column, but that workaround isn’t viable for our workflows because Dropdowns are multiselect fields and don’t support automations the same way Status columns do.
I’m requesting an enhancement so dashboard widgets and reports can differentiate Status values by text label rather than color, even across multiple boards.
What are you trying to achieve
I want to accurately report and visualize task progress across multiple boards where each Status label is treated as a unique value — without being limited by color count or merged into unrelated statuses. This would allow for cleaner reporting and preserve automation compatibility.
