We use an item–subitem structure for tasks. The parent item represents the main project, and the subitems are the subtasks. Each subtask depends on the one before it.
Our goal is to use Connect and Mirror columns (linked to the same board and subitem names) so that each subtask’s “Dependency” column can reference the previous subtask.
What are you trying to achieve
What we’ve tried:
- The built-in Dependent On column didn’t work as expected — it’s difficult to navigate between dependent subtasks.
- A Mirror column lets us select dependencies, but it only works at the parent item level and doesn’t detect subitem columns.
On another board, we use an item-only structure with mirror columns for Dependency (the task that must finish first) and Blocking (the task that can’t start yet). This setup works well, and we’d like to achieve the same behavior for subitems.
