Mobile-first capture to Updates (photos + notes)

Description

Monday.com currently lacks a practical, mobile-first way for site-based teams to capture photos and notes together during on-site walk-arounds (e.g. snagging, progress checks, defects).
Monday.com works well for managing work once it is in the system, but mobile data capture is still slow and clunky. In particular, the Updates section is the only place where photos and notes work cleanly together, yet there is no supported way to create Updates with photo attachments using Forms, Vibe, or a simplified mobile flow.

On mobile, users must navigate to the correct board, find the item, open Updates, and manually post each entry. This is impractical for repetitive, on-the-go capture and discourages adoption by non-technical or senior users.

This affects many use cases including site walk-arounds, inspections, audits, progress logs, defects, and field work. Third-party apps are constrained by the same platform limitations.

What are you trying to achieve

I want a fast, mobile-first way to capture photos and short notes together and save them as Updates, without navigating boards or item structures.

Ideally this would allow users to open the app and quickly capture multiple entries in succession (photo + note → save → repeat), suitable for real-world walk-around use. Even a lightweight “quick capture” mode or Form/Vibe support for creating Updates with photo attachments would significantly improve mobile adoption.

The goal is to make capturing work on mobile as easy as reviewing work, reducing friction and avoiding the need for separate tools or manual re-entry later.

Hi @mathump3
Try building a mobile app with monday vibe
I already saw other users create a data capture app, publish it to a secure URL an use it on mobile.

Hi,

I’ve tried this, and it really does feel like Monday is missing some very basic features. You can’t use API calls to attach images to updates or upload images to sub items. That means you can capture text data, but as soon as you need to include an image, the whole process breaks down.

For us, the purpose of collecting this data is snagging and logging faults on construction sites. Monday pushes you to store images in one column and the notes in a separate column, completely disconnected from each other. That simply isn’t a workable workflow.

The other issue, which again feels like a basic requirement, is exporting the data. If I want to correlate the information and print it so someone on site can work through it, there’s no straightforward way to do that. It turns into a long process of copying and pasting.

I also tried using Vibe to build an app exactly how I wanted it. Even that didn’t seem to know this functionality didn’t work, which then sent it into a loop of trying the same thing over and over to force it to work. That showed that Vibe has its own limitations and doesn’t fully understand the limits of the system it’s working within.

So the issue is really twofold. Based on how slowly Monday tends to move, I’ll probably be retired before any of this is addressed
