I’d like to request a feature that ensures Connected Board and mirrored column values are preserved when items or subitems are copied or moved to another board—whether manually or via automations.
Currently, these connections are lost, leading to extra manual work and data inconsistency. This impacts workflows that either depend on maintaining relationships between boards or needs to view information from the related Connected Board item, for a given item/subitem.
What are you trying to achieve
We have folders representing departments in our business, each containing different boards.
In our Production department we use a board with items resembling weeks, each containing subitems resembling specific and living production information until completion. Some of the product information is relational and comes from ConnectedBoard items.
When a production is finished, we change the status on the subitem to complete. This triggers an automation currently creating an item in a board in our Marketing department, resembling the subitem that has just been marked as complete.
However in the created items we are losing the data put into ConnectedBoard columns, for instance, people entities related to the given project, and company entities the project is made for. That is what we really need for this issue not to kind of defeat the purpose of the workflow we have been setting up in our company.
This is interesting. Just to make sure I’m fully understanding your setup, could you clarify a couple of things?
What product/plan you are on?
Which automation are you currently using to create the item on the other board when the subitem is marked complete?
On the destination board, does a Connected Board column already exist? If so, is it connected to the same board as the original Connected Board column on the subitem?
@Greis I’m on Work Management / Enterprise. This is the workflow I created: when a subitem is marked as Done on Board 1, it automatically creates an item on Board 2 and preserves the Connected Board and Mirror values as well.
When selecting item i have all options to add from my subitem, except for the Connected Board columns.
The Connected Board columns already exist in the target board, and both boards have the same board connections.
Asking sidekick does not suggest any solution to this matter - only workarounds, which is why i am under the impression that the feature does not exist.
It allows you to add the same item on multiple boards with full sync, and also respecting the connect board columns. So those columns will automatically copy over on the new board.
I’d love to show you how the app works and the challenges it can solve for you.
