Project milestone in the high-level board

Hi,
I have created a high-level dashboard connected to the low-level dashboards of various projects. The projects have three milestones. These are managed as items within the individual projects. Management would like to see these milestones on the high-level board. I would like the milestone updates to be dynamic, at least in one direction (changing the milestone in the project also changes it on the high-level board). Is this possible?

Hello @robcrac Yes, you can show those milestone dates on the high level board but updates must happen on the source boards.

How it works
Connect each project on the high level board to its project board using a Connect Boards column, then use Mirror columns to display the milestone Date columns. This gives leadership visibility without duplicating data.

Important limitation
Mirror columns are read only. Changing a date on the high level board will not update the project board. Edits must be made on the original milestone item.

Hi @robcrac,

Yes - this is doable.

You can use a Connect Boards column on the high-level board to link each project to its project board, then use Mirror columns to show the milestone dates/statuses.

When Connect Boards + Mirror columns are used together, updates stay in sync:

  • Changes made on the project board reflect on the high-level board automatically.
  • Edits can also flow back, as long as the user has access to the source board.

This gives you a dynamic, always-up-to-date milestone view without manual updates.

In case you don’t want to use connect boards or mirror columns, you can try the Mirror Item Multiple Boards app.

It allows you to add the same item on multiple boards with full syncing.

You can create a high-level board with items from low-level boards easily!

Hey Roberto :waving_hand:

You’ve already gotten the “official” answers, so I’ll just add a different way to think about this — because the friction you’re feeling is very real.

Right now, all the Connect Boards + Mirror solutions are basically doing this:

“The milestone lives here, but we show it there.”

That’s fine for visibility… but it’s exactly why things start to feel awkward:

  • Mirror columns are Read-only columns

  • Confusion about where updates should happen

  • Leadership sees the data, but can’t really work with it

There’s another pattern that works really well when milestones matter to more than one audience:

:backhand_index_pointing_right: Treat the milestone as a shared object, not a mirrored one.

In practice, that means:

  • The milestone exists once

  • That same milestone item appears on:

    • The project board (where the team works)

    • The high-level board (where management tracks progress)

No mirrors. No “source vs destination.”
It’s literally the same item, just visible in two places.

What this gives you:

  • Updates go both ways automatically (because there’s only one item)

  • Statuses, dates, automations, and updates all behave normally

  • Nobody has to ask “where should I update this?”

There is an app in the marketplace called Same Item Multiple Boards that does exactly this — it lets one item live on multiple boards with full, real-time sync.

Hope that helps frame the options a bit more clearly :+1:
Happy to clarify if you want to confirm your setup.
