Pulling resource planner allocations via API

Hello, is it possible to retrieve resource allocations from resource planners via API? I’m using a stand-alone capacity manager to summarize resource allocation but it has a limit of 50 connected planners. As a result, it seems like pulling the data via API and writing custom reporting is my only alternative. I don’t see anything that specifically mentions resource planner data in the API reference, assuming these data points are treated as items under boards? Going to keep testing but wanted to reach out in parallel. Appreciate any insights.

Hello @DavidDvorak

There’s no dedicated API endpoint for Resource Planner or Capacity Manager allocations. That data isn’t exposed as its own object in the monday.com API, so you won’t find it in the reference.

If your capacity is driven by board data like People plus Date or Timeline and an Effort or Numbers column, you can pull it via items and column_values and rebuild the workload externally. That’s essentially how monday calculates it.

If the 50 planner limit is the blocker, Enterprise portfolios may help. Otherwise the workaround is mirroring allocation data into boards or submitting a feature request.

Hey @DavidDvorak

I’m Ram the CTO of spot-nik. We are actually working this days on a resource planning app that I believe will fit exactly your need!

I would like to demo it for you and get feedback, and open an alpha version for you!

Please reach out at ram.perel@spot-nik.com so we can schedule a meeting and I will show you the app.

Thanks,

Ram

Thank you for confirming my suspicions. Can you tell me more about mirroring allocation data into boards? Are you referring to the mirrored column feature in Monday? Are you suggesting manually duplicating/reproducing the allocation data in board format?

Hello @DavidDvorak Have you been able to get his done ?

Hi @DavidDvorak,
Resource Planner allocations aren’t exposed via the monday.com API.

We ran into the same limitation. Resource Planner data isn’t treated as board items, so it can’t be pulled via API.

Our workaround was to track capacity at the board level instead (items/subitems with effort or hours). That data is accessible via the monday.com API, which allowed us to pull everything into Power BI and build a custom workload tracker without planner limits.

Are you referring to the work-around Yogesh suggests about tracking work at the board level?

If so, no, I’m not interested in doing any resource allocations at the board level. I am using resource planner and I expect to be able to work with the allocation data captured in my resource planners. As far as I can tell I’m stuck: Capacity Manager has the 50 project limit, there are no dashboard widgets that can interact with resource planner data, and there are no APIs to retrieve the resource planner data.

I was mainly just checking whether you’ve found any way to get this done on your side despite those limitations.
