I keep sorting my boards and saving it as a new view and then the next time I open it the sort is not there, so new items just get added to the bottom. How can i fix this???
these are boards that I own, in a workspace that I own.
Are others using it? Is it possible they’re sorting it again? What about creating a new table and then locking it from edits?
No, others are not re-sorting it. I think my question is more like does this feature actually work to save a sorted view? How long does it save it? Why does it resort to some other sorting?
Hi! I truly don’t mean to condescend, but I just want to double check: are you familiar with how Views work in general (and how to switch between saved Views)?
Key background knowledge:
The Main Table always includes everything: all columns shown, no filters, etc. You can make temporary changes to the Main Table's configuration, but by design they will never stick; reloading the page or navigating away and then back causes it to RESET itself, scrapping any prior changes. It also starts out as every Board’s default View—which means that when you go to your Board, it will always load that Main Table View first. When you create a new View (which can be done by saving the changes you made to the Main Table as a new View, as you’ve been doing) the main purpose it serves is to retain those kinds of configuration changes. But you do still have to actually click into the View you want to see/use—since the Main Table will always load first when it’s the default.
You can pin a custom View though—which means that View, NOT the Main Table, will always be displayed first when someone opens the board.
Again, apologies if all of this is old news to you. It just really sounds like you might be saving the View, but not realizing you’re being taken back to the Main Table (NOT your saved View) every time you leave and come back to the board.
In case helpful, here are some GIFs showing how to switch between your saved Views, taken from Monday’s Help Center article:
When all the Views can be displayed comfortably as tabs in the header—because you don’t have very many, and/or your browser window is nice and wide:
Or, if the Views don’t fit comfortably across the top, they may form a dropdown menu like this:
It happened to my with mirror colums. To avoid that I copied the mirrored data in “local” column to be able to stick the sort. But I understand that in some cases this will not do. Another option is to use a formula column to “copy” the mirror data in a local column, and use the formula column to sort. It helped, sometimes.
Best regards,
we also have this issue. my understanding is as follows: when you manually move an item around in a board that has a sort, Monday specifically has a banner saying “Items order saved! Active sort on this view has been removed”.im assuming if an automation moves an item, same thing will happen. so yes this is annoying, it would be great if you can lock the sort that when you move items between groups etc. it zaps to the right place in the sort. give me a like if you like the idea
