Timeline View with Hourly Detail

Hi all,

We are a team of 8 people, available Mon to Fri from 9 to 6 pm. We all do standardised tasks that last 1, 2 or 3 hours. We need to book each task by hour: Julia has Task 1 booked on Mon from 9 to 10 am and Task 3 from 11 am to 2 pm, Mario Task 2 on Mon from 9 to 11 am and so on. This way, be will also be able to know who is available during the day/week and for how long each time so we can book new tasks and balance work loads.

We would like to fill this information through the main view or from a timeline-like view. Is this request feasible?

Thanks!

Hi Alejandra,

My name is Peter Lyngdal. I work for a consulting firm in Minneapolis. Hi Peter,

My question as not to lose your time is: is it feasible the someone outside Monday.com works on this platform’s back-end in order to change the front end as we need it?

Thanks!

The answer to your question is both yes and no.
monday has recently released their third party apps into Beta. This allows for change in the front end. However it is done sort of like a plugg-in rather than changing the back end (which is intact).

As per your original request. It can currently not be solved 100% with monday native functionality due to timelines only working on days (not hours). And date columns can only specify a start time. Hence right now there is no way to specify the window (start time and end time) where work has to be done (in an elegant way).
The only feasible solution right now is to build a board which has one item per each time slot (1 hour slots) and then when assigning people you have to assign them to 1, 2 or 3 items to illustrate the time they are booked. This will however gimp the whole workflow.

Hours in timeline (which is what is needed for your solution) is a commonly requested feature. That being said I have no idea if it is being planned for any of the iterations at the moment.

Hi Thomas,

Thank you for this thorough response! I understand the scenario now.

Monday support team passed this request but they could not ensure it would be put into development.

Thanks again!

Your welcome!

The roadmap is constantly evaluated, just because something hasnt been put into development now doesnt mean that it will not happen.
Fun fact: Back in the spring of 2019 subitems was said to not to be part of the vision and word was to not hould our breths since it most likely wouln’t happen. Now it is one of the hottest features with a dedicated roadmap.
The takeaway: Do not give up! Keep asking for the functionality you need.

Disclaimer: I do not speak for monday.com, everything above is my own thoughts and interpretations based on several years as a certified monday.com partner.

Hello

I am also requesting that the Monday.com Timeline functionality be broken down into hourly blocks. It makes planning our days much easier.

thanks

I am also looking for the feature!

any news? same challenge here.

Same Challenge here. It would be great for planning video or day of event timelines.

As a workarround, it is possible to set up a fraction of a day in the duration column to get tasks of x hours.
However, when rearrenging in the gantt or asssign a new date the duration resets to 1…

I would like this feature to indicate the number of hours directly in timeline column. In this case for instance it would be: May 22 (10:00 - 11:00)

Any update on this?
