Hi All! I’m creating a simple board with a bunch of items divided in groups. I would like to add text to each item with some related information. I tried to do that adding within the items an Item Description field or a text-widget. In both cases, however, these get synchronized across all items in the group. How can I disable that and have each item have its own separate description?
If you’re adding and editing the Item Description as a widget inside the item update view, that description is always unique per item and does not sync across other items by default.
If you’re seeing the same content appear on multiple items, the most likely causes are:
Multiple items were selected on the board
If several items are checked on the left side and you edit a column value from the board view, monday will apply that change to all selected items. This only affects board columns, not the Item Description tab.
An automation is copying content
For example:
When X changes → set Y to something
When item is created → copy value from another item
You duplicated items after adding the description
If you added a description to one item and then duplicated it, the duplicate will carry over that same description.
The Item Description widget itself does not sync across items. If you can confirm exactly where you’re typing and how the items were created, we can pinpoint it quickly.
What you’re running into is likely related to how the board was created or structured.
Normally, Item Description and Long Text columns are item-specific. They should not sync across items in the same group. Each item should have its own separate description.
If descriptions are appearing identical across multiple items, a few things are worth checking:
First, confirm you’re editing the description inside the individual item (by opening the item view), not editing something at the group level.
Second, check whether the board was created from a template that includes mirrored or connected columns. If what looks like a description is actually a Mirror column pulling from another board, then changes would reflect wherever that source value is shared.
Third, if you’re using a Doc or Widget embedded at the board level rather than inside the item itself, that content would be shared rather than item-specific.
In a standard board setup, simply using the Item Description field or a Long Text column should give each item its own independent content. If that’s not happening, it may be worth double-checking whether the column is actually a Mirror or connected field rather than a native text field.

Hey! What you’re seeing happens because the text-widget or the item description is linked across items in that setup. If you want each item to have its own separate description, you’ll need to use a column specific to each item — for example, a “Text” or “Long Text” column inside the board, rather than the shared widget. That way, each item can hold unique content without syncing to others.
This behavior is usually related to how the board is configured. In a typical setup, the Item Description or Long Text column belongs to each item individually, so the content should remain different for every item.
If the same description appears across multiple items, it’s worth checking whether the text is being edited inside the item itself or coming from a shared board-level element or template setup. Using the item’s own description field or a standard Long Text column should allow each item to maintain its own content.
