Working with local files and folders

Hi,

To save you time, the following content is mostly applicable to users who have a shared network drive mapped on their machine or are planning to start using one with teammates. :slightly_smiling_face:

We received several feature requests asking for a way to open URLs pointing to local files and folders directly from monday.com. These requests were primarily from users who share a network drive among team members and have paths to folders and files stored in the link column of items.
Although it’s technically impossible to open file URLs directly from a browser, we came up with a creative solution to make it possible. An app addressing these requests will be available soon.

During development, we realized that this technology could further bridge the gap between monday.com and the local file system, enabling more ways to access local files through monday.com.
A few examples:

  • Upload a file to monday.com, and it will be saved in a folder structure on a shared network drive (with no file size limitations).

  • Open files or folders directly from monday.com, just as you would in your file explorer, without ever leaving monday.com.

While a shared network drive is ideal for team environments, this functionality is not limited to that. Individual users can also access their machine’s local file system through monday.com.
We’d love to hear your thoughts could this enhance your workflows? Any ideas or suggestions are welcome
