Cross board status updating in new Multi-Level Boards

I am using the new multi-level boards. I have two boards, a Sprint Board & a Project Board. I want to connect the two boards so the status from the sprint board updates to the connected item / subitem on the Project board. I've connected the boards via a connected Boards column. I've tried several things, and the closest I have gotten is a mirror column that displays the Sprint status. This doesn't allow automatic updating of the status of the item / subitem on the Project Board.

I've queried a couple of different AI tools and they tell me to create this automation, “When status changes, change status in connected item” but so far I have not been able to replicate this automation.

Any suggestions using the native Monday features?
