Date based status change automation not working retroactively

I have an excel list of action items I am migrating to Monday. Its a list of tasks with a starting date and a due date. I am creating an automation that changes the status to expired (color coded) or going to expire based on the due date (status needs to change 2 weeks before expiration date or on the due date for example). In this list I have items that their due date had already passed and my assumption was that for these items Monday will automatically change the status based on the automation once I turn it on even if it is retroactively (long list and I dont want to start manually changing all statuses of already expired items) but it doesnt… Is there a way to implement this with an automation?
