Difficulty adding items in Kanban view directly to a specific status group

I have a board with multiple views. Most people are editors and I have an issue whereby none of us can add items directly into a Status group in the old Kanban view. The workaround is to add items by clicking ‘new item’ at the top but as long as the ‘+’ icon is still an option in each of the Status groups, this is not a great UX.

Additionally, this issue doesn’t exist in the new Kanban view. However…board editors have the option to switch to the new Kanban view greyed out. Based on the board permissions, this shouldn’t be happening.
