Connect Boards columns are great until you actually need the item in two places, not just a link to it. That's the wall I kept hitting. Sales wanted the deal on their board, delivery needed the same thing on theirs, and a linked column just meant everyone clicking back and forth to a board they didn't own.
What I landed on was mirroring the item itself with Mirror Item Multiple Boards. Same item, living on multiple boards, staying in sync both ways. A few things that made it click for me:
It's the actual item, not a copy. Change the status on one board and it's changed everywhere. No "wait, which version is right" at standup.
Updates and subitems travel too. This is the part most people miss. A comment from delivery shows up for sales, subitem checklists stay identical, nothing gets stranded.
Two-way, not a one-time push. Either team can edit and the other sees it. It's a shared item, not a snapshot.
The bigger unlock was automating the mirroring so I stopped doing it by hand:
When status flips to Approved, mirror the item to the Delivery board.
When a request is tagged Urgent, mirror it to the manager's oversight board.
When something's marked Won, push it to Finance.
The pattern that works: one board where items are born, then let status changes route them outward on their own. Nobody has to remember anything.
A couple of honest caveats from using it ⤵️
Don't mirror everything everywhere. It gets noisy fast. Tie it to a status or label so only the right items spread.
Decide your source board up front. Mirroring is much saner when there's one clear origin.
That's been my setup for a few months now and the "two versions of the truth" problem basically disappeared. Genuinely curious how the rest of you handle cross-board work, though — are you mirroring, leaning on Connect Boards, or just accepting the duplicates as a cost of doing business?
