Dependencies just won't work - mf-dependancies.errors.generic-error

Simple Board - two tasks only.

Set timeline of both - tried to set dependency of 2nd on 1st and still getting this error.
Tried using Task name / Task ID - setting to strict / No action - doesn’t matter

Used AI and it managed to create th dependency - ok im getting somewhere - after adding in 5 more tasks - AI still worked - then it started saying - cannot create dependancies - you must do it yourself - infuriating

That mf-dependancies.errors.generic-error is basically monday’s version of “something didn’t validate,” not a real error message.

A couple quick things to try:

  1. Create a brand new board with:

    • 2 items

    • Timeline column

    • Dependency column

    Then try linking them

→ If it works there, your original board likely has a config issue

  2. Open the Dependency column settings and:

    • Re-select the Timeline column

    • Toggle between strict / flexible and test again

  3. Duplicate one of the items and try setting the dependency on the duplicate
    → sometimes item-level weirdness happens

On the AI part:

That’s actually a clue. If AI was able to create it initially, then failed later, it usually points to:

  • a validation/config issue

  • not the dependency feature itself being completely broken

Hey @richard.muir !

The dependency column isn’t fully configured.

Open the dependency column settings and make sure it’s connected to items on the same board. Check that both tasks have proper timeline dates set, not empty or partial.

Then create the dependency directly from the dependency column cell instead of using task name or ID.
