It would be helpful to also support phone’s masking edit field for extension.

I just tried the phone column today. I was very excited…then let down.
Not only does it not recognize extensions, it has a problem recognizing different phone number formats.

Good luck getting any type of consistent phone number to show up.
Is there a way to use a formula to parse this information? It not hard to leverage additional separators.
Has anyone responded to this because we just noticed today that the phone number field doesn’t take extensions and trying to avoid creating another column if possible.
no response. I have another field for the extension, but we aren’t using it. It would be great to have it work for mobile users.
I found a workaround.
Make a Link Column.
in the address section tel:+16171234567;999 in the display section +1 (617) 123-4567 x999
This enables click-to-call if used on Chrome based browsers or Android App (not tested on iOS).

I hate that is two pieces of information formatted differently
the phone column however could be vastly improved
- Handle Different Formats
2 Handle Extensions
3 Default the area code or country code for local operations

This is something I am running into as well. I would rather not change our entire structure to fit the workaround as it would create too much work. Adding my comment to hopefully bring more attention to this thread!
Adding my vote here as well. Just ran into this today with a 5 digit extension. The board was adding up all of my extension numbers and I couldn’t figure out why I was seeing totals that I had not planned for - lol!
