We’re aware of automations and use them but they are only board by board.
Is there any way of setting an automation to operate on every board in the account?
For example, we use the automation for “Status=Done then Archive a pulse” but we want it to apply for every board, always, rather than having to set it every time we create a new board.
While it doesn’t technically solve your problem, we have been using templates with all the automations we need built in to it. Then when we create a new board from the template, it’s ready to go! Something to think about. But certainly system-wide automations could be useful as well!
I have done the same thing. Built a template that has everything I need on it. The only problem is if you find something that you need across all of those already built templates, it doesn’t push out that change to all those boards you already created. This would be nice to have also.

Precisely. That’s the root of the issue here.
Like others here, we also set up template boards with automations built in. However, when we later add another automation, we have to separately add those new automations to all existing boards individually.
That’s a tedious and unnecessary step when Monday could offer 1) a global checkbox to apply to all boards in the account or b) checkboxes to separately select which Boards do and don’t get the automation.
I’d also like to see an account-wide report in the Automations Center showing which Boards have which automations applied. Even better if we could manage (add/deactivate/delete) automations applied to boards within the Automations Center via checkboxes.
Hi everyone @JohnW, @Krishele@Eltjo@alex@Lobster! Great ideas here, for now using templates is the best way but know that we are working on more ways to universalize automations across the account but no ETA yet as we are doing this in stages. Stay tuned for more to come here though and keep giving us your ideas - we love them! Cheers!
We’re new to Monday, and are still figuring out what’s the best way for us to use the platform and it’s many great automations.
We set up boards, ended up deleting them and recreating them using a template that better suited our needs after the first couple of weeks of use, but now making new changes to that template requires us to recreate all of the boards in it’s image again (including the tedious step of migrating all the Pulses), or having to apply the change on each board separately.
This is relevant by the way not only to automations, but also to other column structures etc…
I would personally love for a template to be like a master slide - updating boards built in it’s image.
+1 to this idea @MaxCR86. Say when you saved the update to the template the next question would be tick the boards you want to update with the template updates.
Any update on this? I’d love to be able to specify another board for the action of the automation
Edit: Nevermind, I found “When status changes to something, create an item in another board and link them using a link to item column in the selected board” which will work perfectly for me!
Incredibly helpful… We have 60+ boards at any given time. As our organization grows and optimizes, our automation needs change. Going through each board takes hours.
Someone else suggested having a central automations panel where you simply select which boards those settings apply to. This would great, even better, allow for multiple automation presets/collections for application to specific sets of boards.
It would be really helpful if we can have this. My team is importing projects from Basecamp to Monday and replicating automation from this board to another is such a tiring process.
