When I Duplicate An Existing Board It Duplicates As A Project Not A Board

When I duplicate an existing “Board” in our Work Management workspace, it automatically creates as a “Project” instead of a “Board”. This is forcing a “Project” format, which is crazy it changes on you, and also the features in the project format are not even all working  The only workaround I’ve found is saving the board as a template and using that to create a new project board, a downgrade from the old way of hitting the duplicate button to duplicate a board. Has anyone else ran into this? Thank you.

The existing board is NOT a project board? That’s so weird that it’s doing that, I don’t believe that’s expected behavior. Have you reached out to support?

Hi @dmccarthy22710. Our existing main workspace is boards & dashboards, which we started creating before “Projects” were rolled out by Monday. From there we duplicate an existing board to manage a new job (one or our new projects) which would duplicate as a board, and now it duplicates as a project and you can’t change a project back to a board. I did have a meeting with support yesterday, and they are looking into it, they were super nice. Thank you so much for your message!

The same for me. @heatherl did you find the solution?

Hi @dandarach, I believe that our workspace was auto-converted into Projects, I’m still communicating with support, but so far they’ve confirmed as of right now, they’re unable to convert them back to boards, or disable future conversions on the back end

Here are the workarounds I’ve came up with so far:

*When I create a new board from scratch – they duplicate correctly as boards, so I’ve been creating new templates for all my own projects to use. Bummer starting from scratch, but it’s better than the project format for us.

*There is a “Move group” function that will move groups from Projects into a new board, create the new board first then move the group of your choosing. To do this, go into a project. go to the group you want to move, hit the three-dot menu > Move Group > Move to another board”. The group will be moved into the new board you created.

*If you do not want to use Projects, an Admin can - Adjust in the Admin section: Permissions > “Create projects & portfolios,” uncheck the option for Admins & Members so users can’t create Projects going forward.

Let me know if you have any questions. I will keep you posted if I get any more information.
