I’ve seen some boards can do this but it would be amazing to dynamically connect a box in monday to a Google doc and edit content directly.
Even something like having a Google folder associated with a group and then if you create a google doc in the item it makes the file in that folder so the whole team can find it in the right place.
It would also be efficient just to edit the doc in that window without opening up new windows, always ensuring everyone can find and is working on the same doc.
I did thanks. They are very cool and I use them personally for some things.
However, when working in a larger organisation where most people understand the MS Word type UX and sharing and keeping those docs in a another folder structure, it can be difficult to get the on to Monday Docs.
Also Monday Docs can be difficult with the block type structure. Sometimes when I need the text from a doc to paste into an HTML file, the formatting can be a real hassle.
I wish Monday docs had a straight text block to use to have text without formatting.
I’d love to see the same thing for Word and Excel documents - we’re currently using the Link Column to easily access the document stored in OneDrive, which works for us for now but I could see the want for more integrated document creation and editing within Monday.com.
I created an app that lets you ingest Word Documents into monday docs (see Word Import - monday.com Marketplace). How close is this to meeting your requirements. I was also thinking of building a Google Docs Import and PDF Import if there’s demand?
That looks interesting thanks. I’m always so impressed how people can code these things and it looks like a great way to create the Monday.com that suits an organisation.
The pricing model can be prohibitive though. It seems to automatically charge per seat - even if not all users will use it. And then its easy to get subscription creep which really adds up.
It would be interesting to see a “game pass” type model where you can use most apps as part of one extra monthly subscription.
As a developer, what do you think of that? Do you get a satisfactory amount of income from your current installs?
I’m new to the marketplace and monday.com in general. My pricing was based on similar apps I already found. I can absolutely see why the model would be frustrating to users though. Your game pass idea is a great one but as far as I can tell this is not being offered to users or developers. The only way this would be possible is if an existing app developer wanted to collaborate and bundle Word Import with their app. Or… I could grow the app to incorporate more document types or create my own bundle of similar apps.
The app itself is really an experiment. I wanted to see how well an app would do if I picked an idea off the Apps Ideas board that wasn’t already in the marketplace to see how well it would do and educate myself about the platform.
So far… I’ve had very little uptake so I’ve got nothing to lose by changing the price. However if I’m asked to create new features, I will have to seek a return on that time investment eventually.
More than happy to be led by the user community in terms of what they want and what they are willing to pay.
