Linking status and notifications to the due date

Hi,
I am trying to build an automation so that the status updates depending on how close the due date is.

So, we if due date is this month, then status updates to “This Month”, if due date is next month then status updates to “Next Month”.

I can change the status once due date has arrived, but not before for some reason.

Creating custom automations like below should work for dates that are initially set beyond 1 or 2 months out:
