I am trying to create an automation moving one item to another group however I don’t want the subitems to copy over, is this possible?

By default, the subitems will move over with your item to the new group if you don’t first move the subitems to a different item.
I’d recommend moving the subitems to a new item and then moving the item but if the subitems don’t belong under another item, try duplicating the item and subitems and then move the copy to the new group and remove the subitems.
