The New Quotes and Invoices Column Size

Description

We have access to the beta of the new quotes and invoices feature. This has been a massive improvement for us, and makes Monday CRM viable for us to use to build all of our estimates. So, kudos to the dev team!

One issue we currently have is that all columns are forced to the same size. We have a description columns that can be quite long at times, and with the sizing of the column, having it word wrapped extends the height of the row. This ends up looking pretty bad, and there’s really no way around it currently.

What are you trying to achieve

There are two solutions that would work well for us. One would be to allow adjusting the width of columns. That wouldn’t even have to be a drag and drop style adjustment. Even just a pixel value in the column edit popup would work. Another solution would be having the ability to merge columns on a row, or just having a “description” row.

Any of those solution would be fantastic for us, so whatever works best for the dev team and all Monday users would make sense. We are actively transitioning our sales team to using Monday CRM for quotes and will likely use it for invoices as well. We would like to integrate our entire workflow into Monday. So, we are a good source of testing the new quotes and invoices feature. Please reach our to us for any feedback, as we would love to help in any way we can while this feature is in beta. For reference, company is Balts Construction. You can reach out to our account admin, or to me directly. Thank you for considering this feature request!

@DevonR

First off, totally agree with you and glad to hear the new quotes and invoices feature has been working well for your team. It’s a big step forward for monday CRM, especially for estimate driven workflows, so the positive feedback is definitely deserved.

What you’re running into with column sizing is a real limitation of the current quotes and invoices layout. At the moment, column widths are locked and there isn’t a way to resize them or define different column behaviors. Long text in description style fields will always wrap, which forces row height to expand and, as you’ve noticed, quickly makes the quote hard to read. That behavior is expected right now and not something you can override with settings.

There isn’t a perfect solution yet, but there are a couple of partial workarounds depending on how flexible your layout can be. One option is to keep line item descriptions intentionally short and move longer details into a secondary text column or into item updates or notes, then reference them at a higher level. Not ideal, but it helps preserve readability in the quote itself. Another approach some teams take is to use a single “description” line item per section and keep detailed scope language grouped under that row rather than repeating long descriptions across multiple rows.

That said, your suggestions are exactly the right ones. Adjustable column widths, even via a numeric setting rather than drag and drop, would solve most of this. A dedicated description row or the ability to merge columns would also align much better with how quotes and invoices work in the real world. Right now, the feature behaves more like a rigid table than a document style layout.

Since this is still in beta, feedback like this is extremely valuable. You’re clearly using the feature in a real, production context, which is exactly what the team needs to hear. I’d strongly encourage submitting this as official beta feedback if you haven’t already, and it’s great that you’re open to being a testing partner.

If you want, the Monday Wizard team is also happy to help you pressure test alternative structures in the meantime or help you document this feedback in a way that’s most actionable for the product team.

Hello,

I thought I had replied to this, but just noticed I hadn’t. I really appreciate the response! We are still working at fully integrating this into our sales workflow, but have mostly figured out the workarounds we are going with until certain aspects of this feature are updated. I did submit the feedback in the official form, so hopefully that got through to the dev team.

I am noticing new improvements regularly with the new quotes and invoices, so it’s obvious there is a lot of effort being put into it. Thanks for the advice, and I look forward to the future improvements coming!

@DevonR Thanks for the detailed response and clarity around the current limitations and workarounds. We’ve tested some of these options, but they don’t fully meet our needs yet, so we wanted to share the feedback early. Appreciate the transparency and guidance on next steps.

Okay, thanks for letting me know! I appreciate the feedback and effort into testing the options.

Hello Team, I want to second that. We have started to use this feature and we are loving it. We too would support resizing of columns, merge etc. Just wanted to add a second voice in support.

Great work team, love it.
