Our Company uses subitems as tasks and we have specific tasks boards that are for specific deparments to see when a tasks is assigned to them. I created the automation I wanted with items that when a status changes it creates the item in the other board and then connects boards automatically, so you can see the status of the tasks from the main project board. When I went to do this with subitems it is a limitation and is not possible to do.
Hi @ashtondavanzo , you’re right, subitems are very limited in automations. If you’re not opposed to using an app, you can try Same Item Multiple Boards to add subitems as regular items in another board. Any change you’ll make on those ‘subitems as regular items’ will be reflected, so you don’t need to duplicate items or handle with connected boards/mirror columns
Hi Ashton, is there an alternative way to design the main board without using Subitems?
Perhaps you could use “Groups” or assign a “Status” as a department, keeping everything at the top level. You could then use filters and views to simplify the main view. What do you think?
After trying multiple different automations within “Same Item Multiple Boards” I do not see an autoamtion that when subitem’s status changes create an item and connect with subitem or some type of way to make it that when the original subitem is updated or some column changes it updates the item in the same board with those changes. Making a limitation that if any information get’s updated it will not carry over to the item on the same board meaning it will not carry over to the connected/mirror column on other connected board.
Let me know if there is a workaround to this
