Adjusting mirrored column data withouting changing the source board data

Hello all,

We are currently using Monday.com to manage our manufacturing floor, and I’m working on enhancing the order entry process.

Ideally, I’d like to create three main boards: one for Customers, one for a Part Library, and one for Production. I want to mirror columns from both the Customer and Part Library boards into the Production board, which is easy enough to do.

However, since it’s manufacturing, things can change on an order-by-order basis—such as material, color, shipping speeds, etc. Is there a way to mirror this information but make it static and editable afterward?

If that’s not possible, the backup plan is to have a Part Library that generates a line in Production, with the rest of the details manually entered.

I really love the idea of using connected boards with drop-down selections, as I think it would make the order entry process much smoother. I know there was a suggestion in another board to make a new line item in the board for whatever the change was but that would only cause confusion in the order process.

Thoughts?

Hi John,

Welcome to Monday community!

You could something along the lines that whenever there is any change (like material color, shipping speeds) in an existing part or customer detail pertinent to manufacturing orders, duplicate the relevant item(s) with a minor label adjustment (such as adding “-orderXX”) to reflect changes.

This would allow you to keep track of historical configurations while making it clear which version is currently active for your production process.
