Any updates here? This bug is causing real-world issues. We just had a high profile client very upset because a task was missed due to the lack of auto-sort for newly created items. As described at the start of this discussion back in July 2019, when an item is created via automation, it is placed at the bottom of the group, despite an auto-sort by date being set & saved on the custom view. Also, sort by date does not work when multiple boards are linked.
Hey @KTPM,
The item (created via the automation) should sort correctly if you saved the sort in a new view. The item will not automatically sort in the main table, as any sort or filter is saved to a new table view. If this isn’t the case on your end, I’d recommend reaching out to support@monday.com to investigate this ![]()
Following on from @basdebruin, you also have the option to save your sorted view as the default board view in-case this helps:
Automatically sort items by default based on a Date Column. (Newest /Oldest)
This way users wont have to toggle sort in a date column each time a new item is created.
Hi @jmaru ,
If you sort the table by date → click on the “Sort” near the top of the screen → Click “Save to this View” it will automatically move items by the date you chose to sort.
If you want to have this is as the default view, you can hover over the newly created group → Click the 3 dots → Set as board default.
Let me know if you have any questions, hope this helps!
My apologies in advance, I have no clue where to go for the instructions you just mentioned. I have no dedicated sort button if that makes sense. I can hover over a date column and manually sort the items by date. My items move from one group to another as they complete certain tasks. It doesn’t get sorted automatically based on the date column mentioned everytime it moves. So each time an item is moved I have to manually sort that new group it went into. I hope I’m making sense. Thank you for the advise though.
