I tried exploring the recycle bin tool to recover one of my colleagues deleted update on a shared board… seems like the update is gone for good… is there anywhere we can recover it?

You are correct in your findings, at this time there is not a way to restore deleted updates. If you need to find what an update said you can search your email to see if you receive a notification for it before it was deleted.
