Can more than one level of subitems be created? It appears that only one level is allowed

Looking at the menu on subitems, it appears that only one level of subitems is allowed. A subitem can be elevated to the upper level but another layer does not seem available. Perhaps the correct method is to create another project board and somehow link the activities of that “sub project” to a larger project item?

When my team needs a layer below sub-items, we use the checklist feature in the updates section of sub-items. Although it is not an official level in the item hierarchy it works for most of our use cases.
