Capability to search mirror columns

We utilize the mirror column to capture the project number on 3 different boards. We have discovered that when we type in the project number in the search bar it cannot be found unless you are in the primary board/workspace. We are only able to find the project by the item name rather than the project number. Not sure if others have ran into this and have found a better solution. Thank you!
