Cross-Account Copier (Data Center Agnostic)

Feature Overview:
Currently, monday.com does not offer a native solution to copy and migrate boards, dashboards, and workdocs across different monday.com accounts which are hosted in different data centers. This limitation creates significant challenges for companies operating in multiple regions or those managing clients with accounts in different data centers.

Pain Points:

  • Account Migrations: When moving to a new monday.com account, users must manually recreate boards, dashboards, and automations, which is time-consuming and error-prone.
  • Client Workspaces: Agencies and consultants often need to replicate workspace structures between client accounts, but there is no efficient way to do this if accounts are located in different data centers e.g. EU and US.
  • Data Center Restrictions: Some apps provide partial cross-account copying, but they are not monday certified, which making them unreliable for global operations.
  • Efficiency & Consistency: Organizations with multiple monday.com accounts need a seamless way to standardize processes across their ecosystem.

Proposed Solution:

  • Data center agnostic solution - Enhance the built-in Cross-Account Copier that allows seamless migration of boards, dashboards, workdocs, and automations to work seamlessly with different monday.com accounts, regardless of their hosting data center.
  • Ability to select which elements to copy (e.g., board structure, items, updates, automations, integrations, allowing fore than one folder at a time, allowing folder hierarchy).
  • Support for both manual and automated (API-based) migrations.
  • Option to retain item IDs for smoother integration with external systems.
  • Permissions control to prevent unauthorized data transfers.

Business Impact:

  • Saves time and effort for teams needing to duplicate complex workflows cross accounts which reside in different data centers (should be transparent).
  • Enhances collaboration between companies and consultants operating across multiple monday.com accounts.
  • Eliminates manual errors and inconsistencies when recreating structures.
  • Supports compliance and data residency requirements by enabling controlled cross-account migrations.

Current Workarounds:

  • Manually recreating boards and dashboards.
  • Using external unauthorized solutions.
  • Exporting/importing via Excel (which does not preserve automations or updates).

Priority Level: High

Hi Yossi,

This is indeed a bit cumbersome, however there’s a better way to transfer more data (including updates & automations) from one account to another if both are in a different region.

You can create a monday.com app and use the Workspace Template. On top of that we’ve created a couple of scripts to fill some of the gaps in this process (such as people columns not being filled/migrated, board permissions not being transfered, etc).

I’d be more than happy to discuss the options and what can and cannot be migrated with you in a call. Feel free to DM me if you’d be interested!

Best,

Maarten

Hi Maarten.
I know all the workarounds. My opinion is, and the reason for writing this request, is that customers need not approach the development center or app creation area when all they (and we partners as well, to be honest) need to do simple activities like copying a workspace from one account to the other. Why should they care that they are not in the same data center?
I’ve worked at monday for 2 years and witnessed many occasions where customers were frustrated by this while CSMs like me had no explanation.
I’ll be more than happy to talk, and you are more than welcome to choose a spot from my calendly link. Just please bring an idea for a solution that monday customers can use.
