Customize Auto Number with # of digits and starting #

The Auto Number column is great, but I’d like to be able to customize it to always be 4 digits and start at a particular number (as an example) This would help with tracking projects by Job # and transition away from a previous system.

Welcome to the community! Did you realize that the AutoNumber column is renumbered every time you change the order of the items (Job # in your case)? To generate an auto generated id (with preText) that “sticks” to the item I recommend the AutoID Column app to be found here: https://monday.com/marketplace/17

Ooooookay great point. In that case it would be amazing to customize the Item ID column to be 4-5 digits so it’s not overwhelming for putting into file names related to the project.

Hi, the only option I see is minimum digits, but I want to limit it to a maximum of 6 — is there a way to do that?

The minimum nr of digits adds 0’s to the front of the numeric part. If you specify 6, you will be good until you reach 1.000.000 items.
