When creating “tasks”, is there a way to create a dropdown to then select any “subtasks”? The only option I have been able to add is my typing in the “subtasks” for each task. This creates a problem if there happens to be a typo or anything different. Can a dropdown be added to choose the “subtasks”?
Thank you in advance-
Hi @BrianR1973 - by any chance would you be able to elaborate a little further on what you’re hoping to achieve here? Are you interested in choosing from templated/default subitems instead of creating them from scratch? I look forward to hearing more!
I know this is an old thread, but came here looking for exactly this. It seems currently the only option for adding Subitem names is to manually type each one in. I’d like to set up a Dropdown list for the Subitem name, as my Subitems will also be named one of several things, but I don’t want to have to type it each time.
Hey @marcusdiddle
We developed an app called subitem automations that’s can offer a partial solution to this case. Here’s how it works -
You can find it in the monday.com marketplace in the platform or here - monday.com: Apps Marketplace
Hope that helps!
Not sure if you ever got a response but I believe the request is similar to mine, Where creating sub items names is limited to a list from a drop down list. Task 1, Task 2, Task 3 etc. but only those choices. I want to avoid the users creating their own task names and only selecting from the predefined list.
Again reviving a very old thread and wondering if any progress has been made on this?
I would like to be able to create Sub items by selecting their name from a limited drop selection
Hi Bianca,
Do you know if this thread has update? I am using a board for my invoices creation. One item is an invoice and each subitem is a line in the invoice. I would like to have predefined option when creating my subitem so my PM does not need to enter always the same things. Is that possible? Vis monday or a plugin?
When we click on create a new subiten, we could have a drop down of several options to chose from, or enter any text.
Let me know if this explanation is clearer.
Thanks!
Hey everyone – stepping in to share some ideas!
If you’re open to using third-party apps, Subitem Automations can help you achieve your ideal flow!
Here are some automations recipes that you might find useful →
@frossini assuming you have a main item that has all the subitems you need to copy to newly created items, this one is for you!
@BrianR1973 @gygagnon @marcusdiddle this might be a little different from actually clicking on a dropdown list, but the result would be basically the same.
The app also has automations that can auto-populate a subitem’s column value upon subitem creation.
Hope this helps! If you have any questions or automation requests, feel free to reach out to us anytime!
Hey @marcusdiddle , @gygagnon and @BrianR1973 ,
We developed an app that addresses your requests directly. The app is called Subitem Template Builder.
The app allows you to save existing subitems as templates that your team can apply to any board. It gives you permission controls, where you can set the list of templates a user has access to. This means your team does not have to type out subitems every time. The subitems are saved with the correct data, your team selects them from a list, and can apply them to the board.
