Could someone help me with the automations I’m trying to create? I’ve been stuck for too long. I get close to the solution, but my subitems are giving me incorrect results. Now I’m confused about the order in which I need to set up the automations, and I feel like I have to start over. Here’s what I want to achieve:
- When the due date of a parent task arrives and the status is NOT marked as “Done,” change the status to “Falling Behind,” duplicate the parent task, reset the status of the original task to “Pending,” and extend the due date by 5 business days if the dropdown contains only “Weekly.”
- If any task’s status changes to “Falling Behind,” move it to the “Late Work” group.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!
Here is my talking through this example:
- I am a user assigned to a task that had an original due date for September 25th. The due date for the parent task will always match the due date for the subitems as well.
- If at 11:45pm, the parent task is not marked as done, an automation will run and mark the parent task and subitems as falling behind.
- When i go in to work the next morning, I should see the incomplete task in my group called “late work”, with any subitems that were marked done still marked done.
- I should see a new task back in my group called “weekly bookkeeping” that has been reset to a pending status, and the due dates for the parent and subtasks have been pushed by 5 business days.
For some added information, I am subscribed to the “column Magic” application, which is removing the dreaded “Copy” from the duplicated tasks. I have the following automations on at all times:
