When we mark a status as a certain thing or ticking a checkbox, we need to be able to ‘force’ adding comments or notes - preventing lists just becoming a ‘tick box’ exercise
That’s a great suggestion! Have you put it on the feature suggestion board? Feature requests - monday Community Forum
Hi @jade.woodward ,
Yes, you can enforce comments in Monday.com when changing statuses or checking boxes using automations. Here’s how:
-
For Status Changes:
- Trigger: Status changes to a specific value.
- Condition: Check if the “Comments” column is empty.
- Action: Reset the status and notify the user to add a comment.
-
For Checkboxes:
- Trigger: Checkbox is checked.
- Condition: Check if the “Comments” column is empty.
- Action: Uncheck the box and notify the user to add a comment.
This ensures no one can mark tasks without providing context. If you still need help setting this up, contact me at Creative Bits.
Cheers!
Thank you for this, however, I would like to keep an audit trail of the comments from previous ‘status’ changes. The scenario is:
Item marked as a reoccuring action
Action marked as complete, where our boards then push a du date back by X months.
Next time that due date comes around, I want to force a comment/update that will not allow them to mark as complete without adding some commentary.
I believe your suggestion would just send them a polite reminder to add something, which they may or may not choose to ignore
