Would love to see a function that allows team members to Chat about general items within a board. Currently trying to use “Discussions” but the navigation and ease of use if not very helpful at this time. Discussion does not show up once refreshed, team member gets an email notification but can not find the Discussion once in Monday because it does not show up in the chat.
Chat Central was just released to the marketplace: https://monday.com/marketplace/10000462 and I believe would fit your needs well. It includes the ability to add it to a specific board, but also has the ability to add the chat to a workspace and create automations as well.
It’s a fully featured real-time chat app in monday.com that includes:
- Custom channels
- One-on-one messaging
- Message threads
- Reactions
- Gifs
- @ mentions
In addition, it’s deeply integrated into monday.com. It’s available in:
- Workspaces: A full-featured chat with custom channels, which also allows for cross-team collaboration
- Boards: Chat that can be added to a specific board, for discussions about the specific board
- Automations: Create a board automation, which automatically adds a message to a channel when an event happens in monday.com (e.g. an item is created/update).

Great idea about improving team communication on monday.com! As a monday.com partner, I completely relate to what you’re saying.
This need actually inspired me to create an app called SecureChat Pro. It adds lightweight chat functionality directly within monday.com. It’s designed to enable those quick conversations without leaving the platform. I’m also very focused on security, so everything is fully encrypted end to end.
Some features that sound like they could help you are:
- Privacy settings that allow you to invite specific team members, or leave it open to the entire group
- Online and typing statuses so you know when people are active
- Notifications for mentions/ tagging (@name) and notifications when someone is added to a private chat
- Emojis for reactions and natively
- Media sharing (PDFs, images, videos, audio files, and GIFs)
- More features are about to be rolled out this week too!
