Need ability to change assigned colors of linked board items on Dashboard

Description

To facilitate cross-department work and visibility, we’ve linked boards from multiple departments to a single Dashboard with a calendar view. However, the auto-assigned colors are always almost indistinguishable from each other, making it essentially pointless to have a color legend at the bottom - e.g., medium light red and medium dark red. Or red and hot pink. This makes it virtually impossible to visually distinguish which department an item on the calendar belongs to. This seems like it should be an easy fix, and I saw that someone else requested this back in 2020 but it was retired in 2022 without being adopted, so I wanted to re-request it here. Based on the responses on the earlier feature request, it seems this is something that would be hugely helpful to other teams with a similar use case, not to mention a fix for a potential ADA-compliance issue for. Thanks for consideration!

Here is the original request: Customize calendar widget colors

What are you trying to achieve

Better ability to work cross-departmentally by being able to clearly distinguish work across various departments’ board through better contrasting colors.

Hi @RachelatTanger,

I understand you want to assign specific colours to items depending on the board they come from. You can set a fixed colour per board by setting up a dedicated board colour status column in your board. I wrote about this in a post a while back:

Customize colors when coloring by board – automagical.work

Doable with monday’s own calendar. If you want to pick exact colours (eg. brand colours) you can perform the same trick with the colour picker column type, but you’ll need Calendar Plus to colour by the colour picker column.
