I have a simple board with 2 columns - its a glossary of terms. Monday defaults to giving the leftmost/first column a wide piece of screen real-estate, but I would like to much reduce that. Whilst I can grab the resize indicator on the right of the column it will not allow me to drag it to a smaller size. Is there any way to do this?
Same thing here. The first column in my table doesn’t have much text at all, but the column occupies half the screen and can’t be resized to less than that.
Other tables in other boards seem to allow narrower columns, though. I’m not sure why this table has such a huge column.
Wait a second, I found a “solution”: the width of the columns is based on the screen size and on the number of columns. More columns will by default be squeezed.
Adding more columns to the right will force all columns, including the Item column, to be narrower. While the other columns can be re-sized and widened or narrowed, the Item column can’t so much (there’s a limit, based on the number of other columns and the size of the window/screen).
If the table only has 2 or 3 columns, then the Item column will be automatically wider and can’t be narrower than a minimum, even if the text inside the column doesn’t fill its width.
I think they have to change the algorithm behind the width of the Item column so it doesn’t take in account the number of other columns and/or window width.
Any news on this? My left most column is responsible for 5% of what I need to see, but takes up 75% of my screen space! How can I shrink the column size?
I just figured out a way to do this.
You can shrink the first column by trying to expand the last column.
When you hover your mouse at the end of the last column, and the “Resize Column” option comes up, hold down the mouse button and drag to the right. As if you are trying to expand the last column off the page.
Since there is no space on the right, the last column will expand towards the left instead. Automatically shrinking the other columns (including the first).
